GC Parade Returns
After a long absence of parades in Grove City, the Grove City Community Parade was held in conjunction with Arts in the Alley in 1990. Parade organizer was Jim Hale and George Nolte was assistant parade director. That year, the parade became the first in Ohio to have a live rock band perform along the entire parade route playing music made popular by Bruce Springsteen. The parade today is known as the Arts in the Alley Parade.
Society’s Parade Entry
The Southwest Franklin County Historical Society had a 1776 float entry that featured the key points of the Declaration of Independence. Standing wearing an orange bonnet is Marilyn Gibboney, long-time president of the historical society.
GC Parade to the Moon
Residents of Arbutus Avenue prepared for a trip to the moon with this parade entry. The date is unknown but believed to have been sometime in the 1950s. The moon launch was unsuccessful but their float entry was a popular entry.
World of Wonders
A Mayan clay mask and other items of general interest are now on display at the Grove City Welcome Center and Museum during September. Go to www.swfchs.org for information and hours.
