Catholic Church
Robert J. and Ada Dienst deeded 22.21 acres and four adjoining tracts to the Catholic Parish for construction of a church and school. Dienst had purchased the property at a sheriff’s sale Sept. 1, 1933 for $7,000. The site had been the former greyhound dog race track on North Broadway. Before construction, Catholic services were held in the old downtown theatre which was last owned by Melvin Girbert, a local contractor and realtor.
